We are European Romani People! Equal and Diverse!

First day of The Romani Week 2022 conference has just ended. Romeo Franz stated: ”Fighting stigma and racist attitudes is crucial!”
First day of The Romani Week 2022 conference, organized in Brussels by the European Parliament, took place with the following panels: “Romani resistance”, “Contemporary Young Romani Heroes”, “Promoting positive narratives and raising awareness about the Romani language” and “Justice for Kosovo Roma”.
Romani needs to make huge efforts to overcome social barriers and make a profound change in the way the Roma minority is perceived due to destructive stereotypes.
MEP Romeo Franz, a Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance member and the event initiator, claimed the need of highlighting the numerous acts of heroism made by Romani representatives:
"Dear friends, dear colleagues, dear heroes of the Romani ethnicity, I am very pleased to open this panel about young Romani heroes. Deep-rooted stereotypes and stigmatizations about Europe's most widespread ethnicity are still present today. Fighting stigma and racist attitudes is crucial, and this can be achieved primarily through the heroic Romani representatives” Romeo Franz stated.
Romani Week 2022 takes place between 16 and 19 May 2022, and the first day of the event was attended by representatives of the Roma community from most European countries. In the following days, issues related to discrimination in the social protection system, the status of Roma women today or the elimination of discrimination in education systems will be raised.
